FAQs
Pre wedding
do you travel to other locations?
Yes! As a bonafide Sagittarius sun, I will gladly travel to wherever your wedding is taking place, be it at the top of Lone Mountain, or the beaches of Côte d’azure. Additional travel fees do apply, and will be discussed during your initial consultation.
What should I bring to the initial consultation?
Anything and everything! This is the time to get to know you and your love story, so any information you have will be helpful to me. Bring me your wedding playlist, a picture from your first date, your list of top 10 favorite romantic comedies, a picture of your dress, the venue, the color scheme, all of it and more!
Do you offer a payment plan?
I am happy to discuss alternate payment plans with you during the initial consultation. Typically 25% plus applicable travel fees are due upon contract execution, with the remaining 75% due a minimum of 1 month before the weeding, however if a monthly payment plan fits your budget better, I am happy to accommodate.
What medium do you use?
I offer either highly rendered charcoal drawings on 150lbs Bristol paper or oil painting on archival quality hand stretched linen canvas. Because I hand stretch all of my own canvases this also means that the size of your painting is completely up to you. Occasionally, if I feel it is appropriate I will also offer painting on museum quality artist panel as well. Please note that, although I have a very clean and meticulous process, oils paints are notoriously wet and can have a strong smell to them. If you have any concerns regarding oil paints in your venue, please bring them to me during the initial consultation.
Can i add additional people to my portrait?
I prefer to focus on composing special moments exclusively between you and your spouse, as I find that paintings created from a hodgepodge of different reference photos look busy and un-cohesive. However, this is your big day, and if you feel that the addition of someone other than your spouse would be appropriate to your vision, I am happy to accommodate you at an additional cost.
Post wedding
Will my painting be ready to take home at the end of the night?
Most likely not. Although the bulk of the painting is done during the reception, the additional studio time included in your package allows me time to really bring your painting to its fullest potential. This also saves you the hassle of having to transport a wet oil painting or dusty charcoal drawing home with you, which can be a logistical nightmare, especially in an expensive white dress.
When will I get my painting back?
I typically allow 4-6 weeks of additional studio and drying time before packaging your painting for either shipping or pickup. This ensures that I have time perfect all of those little details and make sure that everything is just right. Shipping costs, (if applicable) will be included in your initial quote.
Do you offer framing and varnishing?
No, proper framing is an art form in and of itself, and it is not one that I am well versed in. Although your canvas does come wire wrapped and ready to hang on the wall as is, a high quality frame can really be the icing on the cake. I suggest you enquire with a local fine art framer about a frame that will complement your piece. Whatever you do, please, do NOT take your painting to get framed at Michaels or Walmart. Paintings also come unvarnished. This is because oil paints typically take around 6 months to fully cure before it is ok to varnish them. Varnishing an uncured painting would compromise the integrity and longevity of the work. I also would hate for you to have to wait another 6 months to hang your masterpiece! Speak with your local framer about a varnishing addition, when framing your piece, typically it is only a $25-50 add on in price.
Where were you when I got married three years ago?
Chances are I was tattooing someone off of the couch in my living room. Thankfully those days are behind us, and I would be thrilled to make up for lost time! If you are interested in commissioning a piece from one of your wedding photographs, please submit an inquiry form and I will reach out to discuss. I take studio commissions on an extremely limited basis and the working time is often much longer than those of live paintings. That being said, the results are nothing short of spectacular.
